Soma 3-brain Model

Soma uses a 3-brain model theory to explain how the brain processes incoming information - perception - and how we function based on these perceptions. The Soma 3-brain model indicates that healing occurs in the core brain which is the “seat of the emotions.” Research supports the idea that the brain and body are not separate. The structural core is myofascial, and includes the layers designed to maintain the body’s internal support. This structural core is called the “line of inertia” and runs anterior to the spine. This line keeps the body aligned in the field of gravity. Soma works by supporting this deep line in three of its “core” dynamic sessions.

This diagram indicates the need for balance among the three brains. The lack of integration suggests some common (though illustrative) stereotypes: the artist with little confidence (from the body or core); the athlete with no grounding (from the left brain); or the accountant who lacks the (right brain's) gift of intuition.
